Choosing countertops for your new kitchen or bath can be overwhelming—so many surfaces, colors, edge finishes. What one certainly doesn’t want is to be overwhelmed at the choices and options and then underwhelmed with the results! Each hard surface has its pros and cons. Knowing what is available and the best surfaces for your applications and lifestyle becomes the art of choosing countertops!
Throughout Bridgewater’s communities of luxury Villa displays, we’ve provided a range of options to demonstrate the look and feel of different surfaces and finishes. A suede finish black granite is pictured in this elegant powder room (above). While perfect for adding texture, elegance, softness and drama to the powder room, this would not be the best candidate for a kitchen application because of the slight texture and undulation.
Add drama and elegance in your master bath or kitchen with honed black granite (below). The smooth feel is luxurious and the honed finish takes away the shine for a softer look. A handprint or oil may show up but may be wiped away easily with a soft cloth.
Marble has become popular for its classic and elegant look and there are many options available. We chose to display Danby marble kitchen countertops for a couple reasons. The aesthetic is beautiful—it’s classic and timeless and it is a neutral. It lightens an area where wood or darker cabinets are installed. It also withstands staining or spills better than most marbles because of its less porous surface. Shown (below) in a honed finish, this elegant kitchen continues to be our most pinned on Bridgewater’s Pinterest and Houzz pages.
Granite is the overall leading choice for kitchen countertops. The smooth, shiny surface provides a clean, upscale look. The movement or pattern of granite also hides imperfections, handprints and the like. It lends an elegant, beautiful finish to a kitchen and when paired with raised and pulled upgraded cabinetry and unique island pendants begs the question “is this a kitchen or a beautiful room?” We ask, “Why can’t it be both?” Our Clayton model kitchen (below) offers homeowners casual elegance in a beautiful tasking and entertaining space.
Sustainability, durability, practicality, marble, granite, quartz…all these considerations are at play when choosing your investment in countertops. We’ve provided views of different options to help you in choosing. Following, are several articles on Houzz which may also be of help in sorting the pros and cons.
